The Dressmakers

Couture By Caryn was founded in 2002 by Caryn Marcus and
Belle Mell in Teaneck, New Jersey. With almost forty years of
combined dressmaking experience, this mother-daughter team has
a track record of placing the quality of their garments as a first and
foremost priority. In fact, Couture By Caryn was featured in the
Bergen Record for their dressmaking skills and unique approach to
the dressmaking process.

Belle Mell, dressmaker and founder of the renowned Maurell
School of Sewing (Los Angeles, California) relocated in 2002 to the
east coast to create Couture by Caryn. Belle was  featured in
Butterick Magazine (Spring ‘02 edition) and has taught over 500
students the fine art of dressmaking.

Caryn Marcus has taught sewing with her mother since she was 12
years old. At Queens College she received a Bachelor of Arts
specializing in Textiles and Apparel and a minor in Business. There,
she served 3 years as president of the Fashion Association, an
undergraduate affiliate chapter of the ITAA (International Textile and
Apparel Association).  Following internships in the industry, she
became the Butterick Magazine Coordinator for
The Butterick
